Today I am posting a more “grungy” look for you guys. I’ve really been enjoying experimenting with different pieces, trying new things and stepping out of the box lately. Hence why I decided to play with an accessory I haven’t worn in over 10 years… fishnets! The last time I wore fishnets, I was probably 15 years old, making my way to a Green Day concert of which I came back with sand in my jeans and a completely ruined pair of converse. And although those we’re fun times, it is definitely not the look I’m trying to aim for nowadays! Nonetheless, I had a couple pairs of really distressed denim in my closet and I wanted to make them more interesting by incorporating fishnets underneath. I first saw the trend on Instagram and found it quite eye-catching. The challenge to this outfit however, was styling the stockings without looking like a young rebel teenager. That’s why I decided to pair the very statement bottoms with something a bit more preppy (and not so alternative) on top. And what says preppy louder than a varsity jacket? I found this one from Coach not long ago and thought it was the perfect element to polish up the look. Underneath the jacket, I kept it very clean with a nude mock neck sweater. The perfect combination to brave the cold…and by cold, I mean California cold!
The accessories however, we’re not so simple. These brick orange shoes are quite a loud piece because of their thick heels, but I found the fishnets really complimented them in such an interesting way that I couldn’t resist putting them on. As for the handbag, the chain detail really added a punch to the whole “grungy” vibe. Now I know I wear the same handbags over and over again, but I think that’s the great thing about investment pieces. And to be honest, if I love a handbag enough to splurge on it, I definitely want to get the most use out of it.
On that note, I hope you all have an amazing day and let me know what your thoughts are on fishnets. Do you enjoy seeing more edgy looks and how would you style the stockings?
