How to master the sheer top trend

Sheer tops have been a thing for quite a while now and I think I’ve seen every celebrity rock this trend. However, the word sheer alone can be quite intimidating. So today I thought I’d share some advice on how you can incorporate the look into your wardrobe.

Keep it simple

The first rule I would give you when playing with transparent fabrics like mesh and delicate lace, would be to keep the rest of the outfit on the more simple side. Personally, my favorite way to wear a sheer top is with a plain pair of jeans.

Stick to neutrals

The second trick is to stay within a soft color palet. Try sticking to neutrals like black, white, cream, beige or even navy. The transparent material is showy enough in itself and picking a loud color (for example red) can tend to look cheesy and overdone.

Layering

Thirdly, it’s all about the layering. Choosing a bra or tube top that is the same color as the top you’ve picked is essential! My favorite piece to wear underneath a sheer top would definitely have to be a cute lace bralette. Still not totally sold or thinking of something a little more discreet? Try layering a tank top instead or throw on a jacket for extra coverage.

Opacity

Don’t forget that some materials are more opaque than others. For example, the white top I am wearing in this post clearly isn’t as see-through as some thin mesh shirts I’ve linked down below. You can always try different levels of transparency when it comes to this trend. It’s just a question of finding the top that suits your style best.
